Visual Display

Rick Owens "Ramone"

Pictured here is the final product of a shadowbox assignment for my Visual Display course. We were required to conceptualize, plan, design, and execute a visual display box. I chose to make mine for the avant-garde designer Rick Owens. Owens' aesthetic is one dominated by stark contrasts in colour, texture, and material, all of which I attempted to emulate in the box I constructed. The floor of the box is composed of a faux fur while the fabric draped along the sides of the box is a spandex weave with a vinyl like finish. The slickness of the spandex contrasts heavily with the

soft textural nature of the fur while the white background contrasts with the surrounding black walls. The monochromatic colour scheme also matches that of the shoe creating a cohesive visual image that is aesthetically aligned with the Rick Owens brand.

Pictured below are several scans of creative notes taken during the planning and conceptualizing of the window display.
